How to read the Ramayana? That’s a very general question asked by beginners. The question arises because most people find the original Valmiki Ramayana, or the Ramcharitmanas of Tulsidas, very thick. At times, the translation is not satisfactory, or people don’t know if they can rely on the work for authenticity.
Hence this video. In this first part, I talk about 4 books on the Ramayana which you can use to start reading. The first one is a reliable summary of the epic. The second book helps you understand about different narrations of the epic in different languages and in different places (countries). The third one is a work of fiction written about 30-40 years ago. The final (fourth) book is a recent work of fiction that might attract younger audiences.
